We were recently at The Other Art Fair, which got us thinking about why people go to art fairs. What do you think?
At Nina Fowler Print, we believe art fairs are like a microcosm of the art industry at any moment in time. It’s a great way to see what new work artists are producing, what’s changing in the art world and even what traditions, perhaps once considered unfashionable, are emerging or re-emerging with a new twist.
Art fairs also give you an opportunity to get a snapshot of things that are happening in the art world, without having to travel to many different exhibitions.
This was our fourth year at The Other Art Fair. Of course, we choose which art fairs we go to carefully, but we like The Other Art Fair because it’s artist-led and very friendly. At this fair, artists have a chance to promote themselves without depending on the gallery system. It’s a good place for us to be, as we want our high-quality Nina Fowler Prints, which are taken from original drawings, to be accessible to everyone. We reflect that in our prices, too, where you can spend £25 on an original print right up to £650 for our newest, most exclusive releases.
In fact, that was our original reason for going – we wanted to get Nina Fowler Print out there to be seen by as many people as possible. As cinema is such a big influence in Nina’s original drawings (www.ninafowler.com), we knew that the work would have wide appeal outside the traditional art market. We wanted to engage with people who we thought might enjoy the subject matter.
Of course, you don’t have to be ‘in the know’ to go to an art fair. Lots of people think it’s only a particular type of person who goes, but one of the reasons we particularly enjoy exhibiting at The Other Art Fair is because of the diversity of both visitors and art on display. If you have even a passing interest in art, culture or design, you’re likely to find something that will excite, inspire or challenge you.
One of the great things about going to an art fair is meeting other art enthusiasts and people who enjoy Nina Fowler Print. We like meeting old friends and making new ones. That said, we don’t go to every art fair, because we always want to give you something new to see and engage with. This year’s highlight for us was exhibiting our new print releases for the very first time. For example, “Wild Ride” and “Not Even In My Dreams (Lucia II)”.
We love being able to offer affordable art to you, which may increase in value over time. But of course, the most important reason for buying art is to own something that you’ll love and cherish living with for years to come. We’re now looking forward to our next art fair appearance – but before that, we have some exciting plans.
